Washing the Dishes


Program Objectives
 

Objective:  Fill sink half full with soapy water.
 
Conditions
Actions
Criteria
  • Empty sink -- designated as dish sink
  • Stopper
  • Warm water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Watch or timer
  • Turn on both hot and cold water faucets.
  • Adjust faucets until running water is about 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Place stopper in drain of dish sink. 
  • Fill dish sink half full with water.
  • Pour dishwashing liquid into path of running water as sink is filling.
  • Allow dirty dishes/utensils to soak in soapy water for about 5 minutes.
  • Verify sink is half full of warm soapy water

Objective:  Wash dirty dishes.

  • Dish rag and/or scrubber
  • Dirty dishes/utensils
  • Second empty sink -- designated as rinsing sink
  • Saturate rag/scrubber with soapy water.
  • One by one, pick each dish/utensil up with one hand.
  • Use rag/scrubber to clean item with other hand.
  • Scrub item until it is spotless.
  • Remove item from soapy water and place it in rinsing sink.
  • Each dish/utensil is free of any food or substance other than soapy water

Objective:  Rinse soapy dishes/utensils.

  • Cold running water
  • Rinsing sink
  • Clean (but soapy) dishes/utensils
  • Turn cold water faucet on over rinsing sink.
  • One by one, hold each clean item under running water until all soap has been rinsed away.
  • Each dish/utensil is free of soap

Objective:  Dry clean dishes/utensils.

  • Clean dish towel or drying rack
  • Recently rinsed dishes/utensils
  • Use towel to dry each dish/utensil before putting it away, OR
  • Place each dish/utensil in drying rack and allow to air dry overnight before putting it away.
  • Each dish/utensil is clean and dry
